75 000 could starve to death in Nigeria after Boko Haram - UN

Image
Lagos - As many as 75 000 children will die over the next year in famine-like conditions created by Boko Haram if donors don't respond quickly, the UN Children's Fund is warning. That's far more than the 20 000 people killed in the seven-year Islamic uprising. The severity of malnutrition levels and high number of children facing death make the humanitarian crisis confronting northeastern Nigeria perhaps the worst in the world, according to Arjan de Wagt, nutrition chief for Unicef in Nigeria. He said children already are dying but donors are not responding. Most severely malnourished children die of secondary illnesses like diarrhea and respiratory infections, de Wagt told The Associated Press. "But with famine, you actually die of hunger," and that is what is happening, he said. Severe malnutrition is being found in 20, 30 and even 50 percent of children in pockets of the region, he said. "Globally, you just don't see this. You...

Sidney Moorer released from jail after serving time for violating gag order.

Sidney Moorer, charged with kidnapping in the disappearance of Heather Elvis, was released from jail Wednesday after serving 61 days in detention on a contempt charge. Moorer spoke briefly with reporters while he waited to be fitted for a GPS-monitoring anklet. Most questions were answered with, “I’m not going to talk about that.” But when asked what he hoped would come out of his second upcoming trial for the kidnapping charge, Moorer simply said, “the truth.” When asked what that truth was, he told reporters to ask Assistant Solicitor Nancy Livesay. Moorer was sentenced to five months in jail July 29, after Judge R. Markley Dennis found him to be in contempt when he violated a gag order in the first trial of his kidnapping charge by talking to a reporter. He earned credit for an earlier release through good behavior and picking up work duties at the jail. Moorer is accused of kidnapping Elvis, who was last seen or heard from on December 18, 2013. Dennis declared a mi...

BIBLICAL VIEW OF MARRIAGE

BIBLICAL VIEW OF MARRIAGE           Marriages may be made in heaven but they are maintained on earth. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother and shall cleave unto his wife and they shall be one flesh Gen. 2:24.           Like most everything also in society, views and ideas concerning the marriage relationship area varied. These views run the spectrum from totally conservative to wide-open liberalism. Yet a quick glance at statistics show that   sinful humanity’s approach to marriage is not working society has moved the wonderful institution of marriage away from what God the Creator meant to be in the beginning.           God intended marriage to be fulfilling. And it can be when we bring ourselves in to line with God’s design. But in order to be fulfilling. Marriage must operate according to the institution manual, th...
